Latin Flashback: ¿Quires bailar conmigo?

This evening I had a tuba lesson and then a Basketball game in quick succession of each other. On days like this (they happen quite frequently during basketball season) I usually have just enough time to go say "hello" to my brother Jordan at his work and deliver his mail to him, catch some fast food on the way out of town and then get to the ballgame just in time. That is basically what happened tonight....but there were some interesting happenings this particular night.

I got a Baconator at Wendy's in a medium meal. This was odd, because I ate all of the fries, the entire glorious burger and drank the entire Dr. Pepper and was not yet full. In Fact, I may have still been hungry...but I digress.

The really odd part of my ride happened just after I got on the freeway. I had decided that I wanted to listen to something that I had not listened to in some time. My choice was Latin Jazz artist Pancho Sanchez who I saw live in Concert at the BSU Gene Harris Jazz Festival my freshman year. I had an instant flashback to a moment during that concert.

I was sitting clear up in the nosebleeds at the Qwest Arena talking with my Buddies, Matt and George. It was rather dark (as that sort of concert should be) and the music was just jiving. There were some people of various ages that had gone down to the floor behind the rich people seats and were dancing. I felt the need to dance (this was definitely spurred on by the conguero himself, who loves to yell at random times during his songs "¡Bailá!"). I said to them, "I want to dance!"
they said laughingly, "Then Dance!"
"But I don't know...who should I dance with...I should go ask Lynn"
(My freshman year Lynn was a super nice super cool senior)
"Then go ask her!"
"I don't know"
(let's face it...I was [and sometimes still am] quite the wussy when it comes to that sort of thing)
"Just do it or shut up about it" said George
"Yeah, Come on Man!" said Matt

That was basically the end of my flashback, but it did lead me to other memories from that band trip. I did end up asking Lynn to dance (thank goodness for the support of George and Matt) and she answered in the affirmative. I didn't really know how to latin dance, but it was all right. That was a very fun and interesting evening.

It is odd how powerful music is. That memory came so vividly, it was absolutely amazing. It made me pretty happy. So, Here's to you Pancho Sanchez!
